The meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (EDT) at the NRC’s Rockville, Md., headquarters and will be accessible online through Microsoft Teams. Participants must register to attend either in-person or virtually.

About: NRC chair Christopher Hanson and INL director John Wagner will provide opening remarks. The event will bring together government and industry leaders, including officials from the NRC and INL, the American Nuclear Society, Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and several advanced reactor vendors.

The group will examine what consensus codes and standards would best foster efficient design and licensing and potentially drive down the cost of construction and operation of next-generation reactors.

Quote: “The goal of our collaboration is to proactively identify codes and standards applicable to an array of non-traditional reactor designs,” said Hanson. “This effort will help make the NRC’s licensing and oversight of these technologies timelier and more efficient.”
