ORNL: DOE's Better Plants Program’s Energy Bootcamp

ORNL: DOE's Better Plants Program’s Energy Bootcamp

10/16/2023 - 10/19/2023

Description

Would you like to optimize energy use and decarbonize your manufacturing facilities? Would you like to understand how energy efficiency could play an important role in decarbonizing your energy systems?

Join us at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and participate in U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Plants Program’s Energy Bootcamp on Oct 16 (starts at 3pm ET) –19 (optional science tours on Oct 20) , 2023. This workshop, with extensive hands-on activities, has been created to educate attendees on the key aspects of energy efficiency and fundamentals of energy management. The course will cover energy management, process heating, steam, compressed air and other motor-driven systems, along with an introduction to alternative energy options. Finally, attendees will learn how to use diagnostic equipment along with DOE’s free software tools for identifying energy savings opportunities and quantifying cost savings. By implementing energy efficiency technologies, manufacturing facilities can start reducing energy and carbon intensities now. This boot camp will give participants immediate energy efficiency solutions to begin decarbonizing now.

The target audience for this course is people who are new to industrial energy efficiency and energy management systems. It would also be good for seasoned professionals who need a refresher on the fundamentals.

 Specifically, participants will learn:

  • Fundamental principles and concepts of common industrial energy systems
  • How to identify opportunities in major energy systems
  • Understand how energy impacts carbon and how to develop a decarbonization roadmap
  • How to use diagnostic equipment to take energy measurements
  • How to access and utilize DOE’s free energy management/assessment software tools
  • The components needed to establish a world-class energy management system

The workshop will take place over the course of three and a half days – Oct 16 (starts at 3pm ET)–19, 2023.  There will be an optional 5th day on Oct 20 where participants will have the opportunity to tour the various laboratories of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (including: ORNL’s Supercomputer, the Graphite Reactor, the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility which houses some of world’s premier 3D printing capabilities).

Who should attend:

This industrial-focused workshop is targeted specifically towards individuals who are relatively new to a role in energy efficiency/management, junior staff, or seasoned folks who need a refresher on energy efficiency fundamentals. Individuals who should consider the workshop include plant energy managers, energy analysts, engineers, facility managers, electrical managers and management personnel with the responsibility for plant utilities oversight.

Registration: (Click Register in the Top Menu)

The registration fee is $215, which includes lunches/snacks for all days and a course workbook including presentation slides. Please note that all registrations must be submitted by Monday, September 25, 2023. Foreign nationals must register by Monday, September 11, 2023, so that Oak Ridge National Laboratory can complete any security clearances.

While registration is open to the public, organizations partnered with DOE through Better Plants and/or the Better Climate Challenge will get priority registration (space is limited). Non-partners that register before Monday, September 4, 2022 will be added to a waiting list and included only if availability remains. Because of the limited spots, we can only allow up to 4 participants from each company. All registrants after the limit is reached will be put on the waitlist for now.

Registration fees are refundable until October 2, 2023Note that the refund will include a $50 administrative fee.
